Bar

James Townrow*(3) married Jemima Barber*(a) on 11 December 1839 in the Parish Church of Hacheston, Suffolk. Five children were located from this marriage. Henry, James, George, Frederick and Charles.

Henry Charles born Sept Qtr of 1839, Hacheston, baptism 16 February 1840 in All Saints Church.

James born 8 August 1843, Saxmundham, Suffolk, baptism 11 June 1848 in St John the Baptist Church. According to the GRO indexes a James Townrow married in the Dec Qtr of 1866 in the West Ham district. Also a James Townrow died in the June Qtr of 1889 aged 46, in the West Ham district. As the members of this family were living in West Ham at this time, and the age corresponds, I am until further information is to hand assuming they are the same person.

George born Mar Qtr of 1845, Saxmundham, baptism 11 June 1848 in St John the Baptist Church. He died in the December Quarter of 1915 in the West Ham District of London.

Frederick born Mar Qtr of 1848, Saxmundham, baptism 11 June 1848 in St John the Baptist Church.

Charles born 1850, baptism 7 April 1850 in St John the Baptist Church. He was buried on 18 December 1851 aged 20 months.

*(a) Jemima according to the marriage certificate was aged 20 so I can assume from that she was born in the year of 1819, it appears she may have suffered during the birth of their last son Charles. She died and was buried on 6 April 1850 at St John the Baptist Church, the day prior to the baptism of Charles. This indicates that perhaps James was not expecting his son to survive for very long. He did in fact live until he was 20 months. On investigation it looks like Charles was being looked after by the grandparents. James then went on to re-marry a year after his first wife's death.

James Townrow then married Sarah Ann Walker*(b) on 6 June 1851 in St John the Baptist Church, Saxmundham. Seven children were located from this marriage. William, Alfred, John, Harriett, Thomas, Walter and Joseph.

*(d) Walter married Fanny Isobel Sandys in the Dec Qtr of 1895, he and Fanny were the parents of the footballer John Townrow (possibly known in the family as Jack).
